Partnership with Parents and Carers

We value the good relationships we have with parents and carers, recognising that you know your children better than anyone!  Working together we can ensure children reach their full potential.

Reports and Records

Records of Educational progress in line with the National Curriculum are kept on each child and regular assessments of work covered are kept.  At the end of Year 2 (the year in which the child is 7) and Year 6 (the year in which the child is 11) these assessments will be brought together and combined with the results of Standard Attainment Tasks to produce a "snapshot" of the child's attainment.  Children in Years 3-5 take part in QCA tests each summer.  They are like SATs tests and give us a good idea of how children are progressing in Maths and English.

Each term parents and carers are given the opportunity to meet their child’s class teacher to discuss his or her progress.  We strongly encourage all parents and carers to attend these meetings and teachers are happy to arrange appointments on alternative dates if necessary.  Teachers are also available before and after school for brief conversations, appointments need to be made if a longer discussion is needed.

Parents are provided with a written report each July which is the teacher's assessment of the child's progress.

Each year we also run Family Literacy and Numeracy programmes. These are fun sessions with the aim of keeping parents and carers informed about what and how their children are learning at school.  Parents and carers spend part of each session working with their own children and they are given lots of ideas about how to support their child’s learning at home.  Information is sent out by the class teacher a few weeks before the programmes start.

We also have a Parents’ Club, run by parents and carers.  They meet every fortnight and arrange for speakers or trainers to run sessions on such subjects as First Aid, Relaxation Techniques, Parenting Skills and Domestic Violence etc.

Volunteer helpers are also very welcome!  We have a Helping Hands group consisting of parents and carers who are regular volunteers in school, helping in classrooms and in other areas.

PTA

The PTA meets regularly, providing both social and educational evenings.  Our hard‑working committee organises fund‑raising events, which provide much-appreciated extras for the school. The PTA also supports social activities for the children.  All parents are automatically members and details are circulated by the secretary as they arise and included in the termly school newsletter.
