The School

This school is classified as Voluntary Aided, which means, in our case, that it is owned by the Church of England, which also makes a contribution to the upkeep of the buildings.  The Church, by law, has the following privileges:

                        1. It has the right to nominate a majority of the governing body.

                        2. Religious Education in the school may be partly denominational.

                        3. It has certain privileges in the use of the school buildings out of school hours.

The school operates, in most respects as other county schools but we believe that our close relationship with the church gives our school a special Christian atmosphere.  By example we hope that children can learn to love and care for others, to be generous, kind and courageous.

School Organisation 2008-2009

We have approximately 300 pupils on roll, aged from 4-11 years.  This age range is organised into the Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

The youngest children learn in a purpose-built unit consisting of two classrooms and a covered outdoor learning area. We have of 2 full time teachers, a part-time nursery nurse and 4 part-time teaching assistants with these children.  These classes consist of Reception and Year 1 children. The learning is active and child centred with a balance of child and adult initiated learning activities.

The Key Stage 1 team consists of two classes.  One is mixed grouping of Year 1 and Year 2 children, the other is a Year 2 class.  We have 1 full time teacher and 2 teachers job share in the Year 2 class; teaching assistants support in both classes during the morning session.

Key Stage 2 is organised into two teams, the lower juniors (Y3 and Y4) and the upper juniors (Y5 and Y6).  Each team has three parallel classes, there are 3 full time teachers in each team and every class has the support of a classroom assistant during the morning session.

There is a strong team work ethic in our school, all staff work together very closely, sharing expertise and ensuring that there is continuity and consistency in the content and delivery of the curriculum.  We also endeavour to adapt and modify the curriculum to meet the needs of our children, making learning activities relevant and meaningful, giving everyone the opportunity to learn in an exciting and active way.
